Confidence in calamity
Because of Christ, we have confidence in God’s presence, we hold firmly to the hope we have because it is a sure hope, and that meeting together as God’s people is critical as we daily live out our faith.
Food, Faith & Freedom
Paul encourages the Corinthian Christians to use their knowledge of God and the Christian faith for the benefit of others and to build one another up in love. The specific example he speaks about is whether Christians should eat the food offered to idols, but the core issue underneath it all is how we are to live out the freedom we have in Christ.
Love and obedience
Our world makes people obey the rules out of fear of what the consequences might be of breaking them. Jesus speaks about rules in a radically different way—He puts them in a context of love.
Blessings and woes (Lk. 6:20-31)
It seems as though Jesus is quite aware of the ups and downs of this life. In a way, he might even be taking some responsibility for it. Today, he addresses life’s blessings, woes, and the love we experience through it all. These all come from God, and they are all good for us.
Love one another (Jn. 13:34)
This Easter, base your love for your neighbour on his love. You never know—someone might see Jesus’ love in you and wonder where it came from.
A level playing field (Lk. 6:27–38)
Jesus levels the playing field. That can be good or bad news, depending on how good a player you are.
